Lunch with a Retiring Tiger
It was always going to be tough for this event to match the previous, where our first international speaker (Francesca Cumani) had drawn a record attendance. However, one of the game’s most popular players of the last 20 years ‘Richoman’ certainly held his own. Having just failed to win the Brownlow in his final year at the Tigers, Richo hung up the boots and replaced them with a microphone. The GSC is sure that his relaxed attitude and terrific sense of humor will see the Tasmanian flourish as a sports commentator and we wish him all the best.
A huge thanks to the Herald Sun’s Mike Sheahan who volunteered his time to interview Richo. Mike is a revered footy figure and the GSC was extremely grateful for his contribution. Massive thanks also to Peter Hudson, who also volunteered to take part in a panel discussion with Richo and our legendary MC, Simon Madden. It was great to hear two champion Tasmanian forwards respond so candidly to the questions from Simon and the audience.
A record amount of money was raised, all of which will be directed to assist disadvantage young people to access sport. As always, the Mirabel Foundation will be the primary beneficiary. This great result was largely due to extremely substantial contributions from:
Spicer Thoroughbreds
G3 Events
Lion Nathan
Sportsbet.com.au
…and of course, the loyal and generous members of the GSC
We can’t wait for the next event in October.
