The Spring Carnival must be here because the annual Grassroots Sports Club Racing lunch hosted by Jason Richardson just went off with a bang.
To arrive at the event and be greeted by the champion racehorse Might and Power was just awesome. To see guests, get photos and talk about his greatest triumphs, the times they saw him run or back him was a highlight of the day. Thanks to living legends for bringing one of racings greatest champions along.
One of the greatest trainers ever, Darren Weir was always going to be a fascinating guest and he didn’t let us down. From his cup triumph with Prince of Penzance to stories of starting out in Berriwillock Darren is as laid back as they come. With 36 Group 1 wins and prize money totalling $148,123,328 to his name Darren Weir is also at the top of the racing game.
The racing panel of Nathan Brown, Darren Potter and Jason Richardson poured over the form and dished out winners left right and centre while Melbourne champion and all-round nice guy Russell Robertson kept the tunes rolling throughout the day.
This is one of the best days of the year and all for a good cause.
